The Indian subcontinent is known for its numerous traditions and customs dating back many centuries. One of the traditions which has been carried on for centuries is the application of henna or mehndi. Henna is extracted from a plant and is a dye which is used on the body. There are various uses of this special plant extract. Many people use it to dye their hair.Henna also has special properties which help condition the hair and make it look glossy and soft to the touch. However, the main purpose of henna in today’s world is to make temporary tattoos on the body. The most common sites to make these intricate and detailed tattoos of henna are the hands and feet. Girls and women of various age groups put on mehndi on their hands and feet on various occasions. Any celebration is considered incomplete without mehndi. In India, it is common to put on mehndi on your feet and hands on occasions like Eid, Diwali, Holi, and weddings. Brides spend large sums on getting the perfect mehndi design on their hands and feet.
